Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could help the party reach places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.
